Sportingahead is the creation of Karen Cheung – coach, educator and consultant

There is a shortage of quality coaches where sports rely on parents, volunteers and other enthusiasts to pass on any knowledge and train their youth. In addition, the financial constraints of players, clubs and organisations make travelling the globe to work on small projects difficult. Therefore, I feel the time has come to extend my services online to reach out to every corner of the world.

I bring together many years of coaching experience with a background in sports science to provide multiple services to players for performance enhancement. I am a strong promoter of mental skills development and extend my services to parents and participants of all sports.

In addition to developing people I also provide a professional service to clubs, organisations and associations. I have worked on a diverse range of projects, advising and aiding implementation in the general development of practices and processes. Examples of such tasks include designing development models, codes of conduct and selection criteria, updating coaches’ knowledge and skills and organising and running referee and marking courses.

I work with people and who are willing to dedicate the time and effort required to:

  • realise their goals or potential
  • strive for excellence in everything they do
  • make the most of opportunities and experiences

Simply because time + sustained focused effort results in pride and fulfilment – success!

In Focus - Squash & Mental Skills

For many years squash has been my focus as a player and international coach. During this time I have gained invaluable and extensive knowledge and experience, most of which applies to coaching and performance of any sport. One thing for sure is that physical and mental skills development go hand-in-hand and to neglect one in favour of the other is detrimental to growth and performance.

Through the creation of sportingahead I hope to share my thoughts and ideas with a global audience while adding a personal touch working on a one-to-one basis.

Karen's commitment and dedication to the development of squash here in Trinidad & Tobago has been second to none…Karen has been instrumental in the many successes of the past two years – both on and off court – and in particular our juniors on whom we have focused. Trinidad & Tobago Squash is the better for her involvement. I will certainly miss working with her – both as a player and an administrator. Our loss will undoubtedly be someone else’s gain.
